What I liked most about this high school romantic dramedy was the sincerity. Our hero, Sutter Keely, played by Miles Teller, is a teenage boy torn between two women: Aimee Finicky, played by Shailene Woodley, and Cassidy, played by Brie Larson (for all of you United States of Tara fans). The way in which these characters think feels honest to how real teenagers would think: their priorities and reasoning may not always be practical, but pragmatism is not a quality often found in high school students.
The believability of the film is also supported by the acting of the cast of young stars. They earnestly paint a picture of high school and relationships. Relationships that even if they happen in the first 18 years of your life can still be formative and life-changing. Young love, although young, can still be love.
One very successful check mark next to my Summer Watch List. (And, hopefully more to come soon.)
