I’m not the biggest fan of scary movies, but there are still great Halloween movies that won’t have you covering your eyes. Since it falls on a Thursday this year, most of our big parties and plans are on the weekend, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still celebrate at home on the 31st. If you wan’t a low-key night at home with some Halloween movies, try some of these childhood classics:
- The Witches: I will admit, the movie was a bit scary when I used to watch it as a kid, but I could never resist watching it. I love this Roald Dahl story and the film adaptation, and with a 100% rating from Rotten Tomatoes, it’s clear I’m not the only one who likes The Witches.
- The Nightmare Before Christmas: Everything about this movie is exciting: the original story and characters, the stop-motion technique, the musical numbers, and the cross-generational appeal. Anyone at any age can appreciate The Nightmare Before Christmas.
- Hocus Pocus: I can’t count the number of times I’ve seen this movie (since it’s on TV every year around Halloween), but I never grow tired of it. Hocus Pocus is a part of my childhood, and I’m sure many of yours too, but we are never to old to watch this movie.
Fashion is subjective, so there’s no such thing as the “perfect outfit”. It’s less important to look perfect than it is to feel confident. My philosophy for dressing confidently is pick one item of clothing and plan around it. When you find one item you love, make that your centerpiece. It may be a dress, necklace, great pair of shoes, or maybe a beautiful coat (like my choice for today). The rest of your outfit, your accessories, and your makeup can all compliment your centerpiece — so every day you can walk around feeling confident.
Not only is animal print “in” right now, but so are printed animals. And the only thing better than one printed animal on a sweater… two printed animals on a sweater.
First thing… shoes with studded or embellished heels is not a brand new trend; however, the heels are becoming more and more interesting. It’s always fun to give a little wink when you turn around that people aren’t expecting.
Second thing… mesh is popping up all over the place. Now, even when you are wearing heels, your feet can still be naked (but in an appropriate way!).
I have been missing the French Riviera, so I decided to recreate a classic dish of the area: the niçoise salad. But, I put my own twist on it, using steak instead of tuna and changing up the ingredients slightly. It is reminiscent of the original and captures most of the food groups, so it’s a meal by itself. Plus, you can easily adapt it for any party size.
